About 41 Norge

A community for ex-tablers – with friendship, networking and experiences at the heart of everything we do

41 Norge is a nationwide organisation for former members of Round Table – ex-tablers – with clubs and members throughout Norway.

The organisation was established in Kristiansand in 1977 and today has approximately 740 members across 43 clubs, from Alta in the north to Kristiansand in the south. We are an organisation that continues to grow and develop, with new members and clubs joining regularly.

Part of an international community

41 Norge is a member of 41 International, a worldwide network with approximately 37,500 members in 43 countries.

Through 41 International, our members have access to an extensive international network, providing opportunities for friendship, visits, events and new acquaintances across national borders.

41 International

41 Norge also maintains close and strong relationships with ex-tabler organisations around the world, as well as with Round Table, Tangent and Ladies Circle. This creates a unique community that brings together generations and people across national borders.

Our goal is simple:

Everyone who leaves Round Table because they have reached the age limit should have the opportunity to continue the fellowship through 41 Norge.

Round Table is about friendship, networking, experiences and personal development. We believe that this community should not have to end when you turn 40.

41 Norge carries forward much of what makes Round Table unique – but on new terms and with new opportunities.

Our history

The history of 41 Norge actually begins outside Norway – in England.

In 1927, the young Rotarian Louis Marchesi from Norwich established the first Round Table club. The idea spread rapidly, and the Round Table movement grew into an international organisation with clubs in numerous countries.

When Round Table members had to leave the organisation upon reaching the age of 40, a natural question arose:

Where would the friendships, networks and sense of community continue?

The answer was the establishment of dedicated clubs for ex-tablers.

From England to 41 International

On 13 May 1945, representatives from four English ex-tabler clubs met in Wakefield: Liverpool, London, Lytham St. Anne’s and Wakefield. Together, they established The National Association of Ex-tabler's Clubs.

The organisation subsequently grew both in England and internationally. Its name was later changed to The Association of Ex-tabler's Clubs.

An important milestone came in 1975, when representatives from Belgium, England, France and Germany met in Le Touquet and established 41 International. The first President was Michael Matthews.

Since then, the 41 movement has grown into a global community with tens of thousands of members.

41 Norge is established

In 1977, 41 Norge was founded in Kristiansand, with our senior statesman Knut Rostad from Gjøvik becoming the organisation's first President.

The beginning was not entirely straightforward, however. It would take several years before the organisation established a permanent nationwide structure. At the Annual General Meeting in 1985, Per Wium from Drammen was elected President, and the organisation was given the name Ex-tabler Norge.

At the National Meeting in Geiranger in 1999, the name was changed from Ex-tabler Norge to 41 Norge. This brought us into line with the other national organisations within 41 International.

41 Norge today

Today, 41 Norge is a modern and vibrant organisation with 43 clubs and more than 700 members across the country.

From Alta in the north to Kristiansand in the south, we come together to continue what has always been at the heart of Round Table and 41:

Friendship. Community. Networking. Experiences.

And perhaps most importantly – the opportunity to maintain and develop good friendships throughout life.
