41-Norway

History 41 Norge is an organisation for former tablers from Round Table Norway or from international clubs. We are a member of 41 International. To understand the history properly, it is necessary to go back to England in 1927. That year, the young Rotarian Louis Marchesi from Norwich founded the first Round Table club. The movement grew and spread to many countries. A tabler must leave Round Table when reaching the age of 40. What could be more natural than forming an ex-table club? It did not take many years before the first clubs saw the light of day in England. On 13 May 1945, four clubs met in Wakefield. Clubs from Liverpool (1936), London (1939), Lytham St. Anne’s (1941) and Wakefield (1943) formed The National Association of Ex-tabler`s Clubs. The number of clubs grew both in England and in other countries, which led the English organisation to remove National from its name and become The Association of Ex-tabler`s Clubs. In 1975, the next major change came. In Le Touquet, Belgium, England, France and Germany came together and formed 41 International. The first president was Michael Matthews. Today, 41 International consists of clubs from more than 25 countries. In Norway, it took some time before a national organisation was established. Our nestor Knut Rostad from Gjøvik became our first president. In 1977, 41-Norge was founded in Kristiansand. The beginning was not entirely smooth. The next annual meeting was held in 1985, and Per Wium from Drammen became president. The name was then set to Ex-table Norge. There have not been many presidents through the years. The names are listed below. It should also be mentioned that Trond Hersleth from Aurskog was world president in 1994/1995. At the national meeting in Geiranger in 1999, the name was changed from Ex-table Norge to 41 Norge, aligning with the other nations in 41 International. Today, we have many members and clubs.
